Ellen L. Hochman, Management Consultant
Ellen Hochman is a management consultant with over 20 years of experience in product development, valuation, and commercialization strategy. Her industry background includes pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostics, and consumer products.
Ellen was recently a management consultant for IMS Health Consulting, specializing in product and portfolio analysis for major pharmaceutical companies. She aided clients in product development and licensing decisions by providing commercial opportunity evaluations for pipeline drugs. She has deep expertise in market assessment, primary and secondary, qualitative and quantitative market research, decision analysis, competitive analysis, and direct-to-consumer marketing. Her therapeutic area experience includes CNS (epilepsy, pain, sedation, psychiatric); diabetes; consumer health; gastroenterology; infectious disease, cardiovascular, and osteoporosis.
Prior to joining IMS Health, Ms. Hochman was President of Brookline Marketing Consulting, where she assisted device and diagnostics clients with strategies for entry into new disease areas and product line diversification. She developed business plans for emerging companies seeking venture financing and introduced them to established companies for potential partnerships.
Earlier roles include Global Marketing Practice Manager at McKinsey & Company, where she directed knowledge management for the Marketing Center of Excellence across a full range of industries, including financial services and high tech. She captured and disseminated frameworks and examples of McKinsey’s approach to marketing studies, and led development of the firm’s first intranet site and an interactive training program still used for new associates.
Ellen started out in consumer marketing and advertising. Her performance as Vice President of Marketing at a private exercise video company led to growth sufficient to place the company on the Inc 500 fastest-growing private companies for two years running, and eventual acquisition by Time Warner. As a Vice President at Young & Rubicam Advertising she developed and managed execution of brand and advertising strategies, including positioning and segmentation, for major consumer products companies such as Colgate and Johnson & Johnson.
Ellen was an Adjunct Professor of Marketing at New York University’s Stern Graduate School of Business. She earned a B.A. at New York University, and an M.B.A. at Harvard Business School.
